What I did on my summer vacation…Day 4…or the journey home

Time flies when you’re having fun…and it did…and now it was time to head for home. DH had a surprise for me. We were going to take the “long way” home. We went south before we turned west to pick up Skyline Drive. I’d heard about it my whole life (long story) but never travelled it. The trip to D.C. took 5 hours…the long way home…10 1/2 and worth it. We got on at the Thornton Gap entrance and enjoyed about 36 miles of beautiful scenery.

I have a friend who writes of his Cathedrals of the Sky…I sometimes think of Cathedrals of Green…perhaps this is the intersection of both.

Thanks to my DH…for a great birthday!

  1. “Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River….”

It is breathtaking, isn’t it? I have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway, beginning at Skyline Drive, heading south into Asheville NC to visit the Biltmore House.

There’s nothing else in the world like it.

What a nice surprise for you!!!

Might be heading back up there over the 4th. If I do, I’ll look for your tracks, Gretel!
